Award for "Stadtgärten" design

Rostock, September 2025: The Inros Lackner team impressed the jury with their design for the "Stadtgärten" ("City Gardens") residential complex of WG Schifffahrt Hafen Rostock, winning third prize in the competition. The jury particularly praised the way in which the character of a cooperative accommodation model was successfully combined with the demands for sustainable design and a future-oriented living concept.

The plans include 102 barrier-free residential units with a total of 8,673 m² of living space, creating a diverse and future-ready range of housing options. The layout and usage concept is designed to be barrier-free throughout and to ensure efficient use of space. Notable aspects of the design of the open spaces include their suitability for relaxation, their integration of sustainable “sponge city” elements, and the direct connection to the Bleichergraben recreation area.

The architectural concept is characterised by well-coordinated structures, the targeted greening of façades, and the use of sustainable materials. The cost-efficient design eliminates the need for an underground car park; instead, parking spaces are provided in a noise-optimised, expandable multi-storey parking structure. The sustainability of the design is further enhanced by the high quality of the building envelope with respect to energy efficiency and by the climate-friendly energy supply.
