Realization for flood retention basin Niederpöbel

As a flood protection measure, the construction of the Niederpöbel flood retention basin is associated with interventions in nature and the landscape. These will be compensated for in part by the implementation of the complex "Förstergrund" measure. The project for the renaturation of sections of the Eichleitenbach includes the development of a water corridor with a meandering course and water edge strips as well as the construction of an overflow sill and two ponds for the temporary storage of surface water during heavy rainfall events. In addition, a culvert was upgraded, existing melioration outlets were integrated into the newly constructed embankments and access roads were created. On both sides of the Eichleitenbach, approx. 30-35 m wide woodland was planted to convert arable land into vegetation alongside the watercourse. This allows valuable biotope structures with a stepping stone function to develop and contribute to water retention in the area. The variation in the size of the areas and the plantings ensure a design that is as close to nature as possible and a long-lasting bloom.
